FTC Team 7034 Singularity Technology

Co-captain and programming lead for a FIRST Tech Challenge team that has competed at the FTC World Championship.

The team

Singularity Technology is a FIRST Tech Challenge team based out of the Wilton Library. I joined in 2023 and have been co-captain for the past two years.

I focused on keeping robotics in Wilton sustainable. The team now supports four other teams: two FIRST LEGO League teams I fund through the Robotics Catalyst Foundation, and two VEX teams at Wilton High School.

Programming

My goal was to move as much of the driving and decision-making as possible onto the robot, so drivers only choose what to do, not how:

  • Localization: Limelight AprilTag pose estimates combined with goBILDA Pinpoint odometry, so the robot always knows where it is on the field
  • Auto-aim: one button turns the robot to face the goal, and another tracks game pieces with the camera
  • Distance-based shooting: flywheel speed is calculated from distance to the goal, and shots only fire once the flywheel is at speed
  • Color sorting: a three-slot spindexer reads each game piece’s color and orders them to match the randomized pattern the camera reads off the field
  • Field zones: polygon collision checks know when the robot is in a legal launch zone
  • Autonomous routines for all four starting positions using Pedro Pathing

Results

The team qualified for and competed at the FTC World Championship (2024-25) and the FTC Premier Event “Run for the Robots” (2025-26).
